veggies and the dewey decimal system
Two hours before bedtime, two little librarians tackled the job of sorting their books. They managed to pull quite a few out of the shelves before I stopped to question their actions. And this is the reply I got: "Mom, you're not supposed to sort books by size. Nature has to be with nature, animals with animals, not board books with board books, and you can't put a stash of thin books together just because they're all thin!" And then this: "I know we shouldn't be doing this now because it is already nighttime why don't you make us eat 4lbs of broccoli."
They're thinking food by the pound now since we weighed our Halloween loot. I gave them about a pound of broccoli, that was all we had. I never use food as punishment, besides this wasn't any form of suffering, steamed broccoli is one of their favorite snacks.
But since they threw the idea out there, I added big chunks of luscious leeks to their peas last night. It was worth a try but they are not yet ready for leeks outside soups.
Now back to sorting books...

this will have to do
I wanted to talk about something else today, I really do, but blogger has a mind of its own and would not allow me to upload photos at the moment.
Here is something I put together from the photos I had on file. I have two working titles -- Big Sister or A History of Maku's Hair. You decide ^.^
Have a great weekend everyone!

a double milestone
What a day Saturday turned out to be!
Maku finally figured out how to swim.
And Snow lost her first tooth!
It happened around 8pm and she still managed to whip up a pouch for the tooth fairy ;)
As for Maku, well, he managed not to pee in the pool.

oh how they amuse me
Snow's assorted way of dressing amuses me to no end. "This all matches, mom. All the colors on my socks are on my dress too except for green so I'm wearing my green shoes."
See the white pot in the background? One morning it had some rabbit poo, I flipped it over, sprayed it and after that it wasn't just a pot anymore.
It has been an essential part of ninja training and a prop for many circus performances.
Mismatched outfits and upside down pots. What a thrill to capture a little slice of their budding personalities!

school again

Monday was Snow's first day of school. The house was filled with back-to-school excitement, first-day jitters and little-brother screams of sister please stay.

a little bit of growing up
I know, enough is enough, I’ve earned my “Purple Owie Award” but I still sleep on the couch and that entitles me to one more I'm-owie-post, especially with a view like this from the end of my makeshift bed.
Two little ones wiggling and giggling--filled with joy and delight--yet underneath those smiles I know they feel scared and confused. I’ve shaken their sense of comfort and security and I'm finding it so hard to recover from that.
As I hold their feet to make sure they don’t kick the stitches on my tummy Snow’s feel a little longer and Maku’s just a little rougher; they’ve grown this week, their little hearts, and their little feet.
