yay! he turned 6 today!

just look at those 6 year old feet ;)

As many have noticed I took a little break from blogging, I'm not even going to mention that I'll be posting more because things just don't work out that way for me. But I did just mention it, didn't I? :D

Sir Maku

the pantless, horseless knight ;)
And no, this wasn't his Halloween costume. I still have to post those. :)
We spent Thanksgiving with my brother-in-law's family. Maku ate so much turkey, he earned a piece of the gizzard. When asked what he was chewing on, he replied, "I think I am chewing on the turkey's nose." Yep, chewing on gizzard is much like chewing on a human nose. Nice.

two heads and a foot

We didn't give them any names. Maku, however, has named his left foot Rooster.

Now he wants to paint his toes orange and blue - for a more roosterly appearance. :D

an interview with speedfour

I am Speedfour. I fight guys with three heads. Speedfour is the best hero ever. Water, lava, sunburn - my special powers. I jump onto a lot of buildings.

I want to talk about my rope. I have one on my shoulder that swings me to other buildings. I cannot fly yet. You have to practice a lot to fly.
Eat a lot of fruits so you can become a superhero. I want to carry a whole house that means I have to eat a lot of vegetables. Don't drink a lot of coffee. Coffee is bad for you. When I don't want to be strong I just eat a lot of popcorn. And I want to ask, how much popcorn do you eat? Aha...

When Speedfour is peeing the monsters lose their badness. When Speedfour is sleeping the bad guys fall asleep.
I fight fast and spin around. I love saving people. I try not to fall. When I'm tired, I take a nap or I fight in slow motion.

I AM SPEEDFOUR....tan-ta-nan....and I want to say...FIGHT TO SAVE!

Speedfour is four years old and is the fourth member of a family of four. He lives in a world called Desire 6. His archenemy is the giant Vovo. When he is not busy saving lives, he is simply known as Citizen .

hello?

"Hi, it's me. We are going to New York tomorrow. I don't want to go on the plane again, last time I was so tired I threw up. We went to the county fair yesterday. It was a lot of fun. Mom didn't sort the photos yet, she has to pack. Okay. See you later."

the 27 hour party

If you count licking the frosting off of a whisk as the start of the celebration then the party was much longer than that.

Day 1 :: There was fire, food and a rare picture of me...

No, no, they were not dancing the Y-M-C-A.

Most of the nighttime photos didn't come out clear so I'll move on to the next day...

That is Snow on the pink bike with no more training wheels
and that is Maku in the pink shoes trying to keep up -- which was what he did all day.

Just look at him here.

It rained and no one seemed to notice but me. My sister was back in the house preparing lunch while the children went about the business of styling their wet hair like that of George Washington. Maku tried to style his short curly hair too; keeping up with the bigger kids was hard work...

...and this little boy was so determined he didnt give up until he bled. He had cuts on his little fingers too.

four

This little one will be four in a few days. He announced yesterday that when he turns four he will go caving, beat Daddy in wrestling, and buckle himself in his carseat.
And, for my part, I promise to put away all his 2t clothes, because as my girlfriend said, it's just not cute anymore.

curls lost

Maku's hair was looking dry and frizzy before our trip to Buffalo; the solution (or so I thought) was to give it a trim.
I grabbed a pair of scissors, pulled a section of his hair between my fingers, and started cutting. Several snips later his hair was looking like Sheena Easton's (yes, it was that awful). I panicked and asked Dave to help (big mistake!).
He ran a pair of clippers through my poor boy's hair like he was trimming a hedge. When there was barely enough hair to fix he stopped and suggested I take Maku to a barber.
I took him the next morning, camera in hand, but no pictures were taken. I ended up sitting on a barber's chair wrapped in a cape that smelled like a mixture of Pinaud and Barbasol while Sheena...er, I mean Maku, was on my lap getting his hair fixed.
It has been a month since the tragic trimming of the tresses and his curls are now slowly growing back.

And look what I found while I was looking for a curly headshot:

Maku having a go at his stomp rockets.

holiday shopping

Made my list, checked it twice
because shopping with a 3 year old is not always nice

Shirt on backwards, flip-flops flung through the air
Trying on a skirt can be such a nightmare

Running to the potty, crawling under a fitting room door
"I'm thirsty." "I'm tired." "Let's get out of this store!"

shark specifics

The day before our trip, Maku drew me this.

"I need to bring a toy that can swim, if I accidentally drop it into Mimagra falls, I know it will be okay."

We had to make it to his specifications or potentially lose it forever.

orange - so it could easily be spotted by rescuers
blue eyes - so it could see well under raging waters
no gills - so it could breathe in air during the helicopter lift

Booksie was never dropped into the river but there have been many rescues, some more complex than others. There was a cave rescue that lasted for days with many rescue dogs hurt. Today he was found stuck in a bamboo forest and was rescued by a helicopter. Where would you go if you were a shark with no gills?

Maku's ponderings

"What is the difference between invisible and disappear?"
"Does the bad guy thinks he is the good guy, since to him the good guy is the bad one?"

Captain Sniffles and First Mate Sneezies

My apologies for the unexpected break. Maku and I had the flu (so much for a good week). We are feeling much better now but sadly it is my niece's turn to be sick. (Feel better soon, Jin! )

Strange things happen when you are all cooped up in the house looking out to a beautiful sunny day --

the couch becomes your ship...

...and you easily fall overboard!

bones

Like most 3 year olds, Maku loves repetition and has a deep love for memorization. He knows his favorite poems by heart and can identify almost all 50 states on the United States map.

He recently developed a fascination with the human skeleton and is now getting acquainted with all of his major bones.

Yesterday he excitedly came running to me and said, "Look, I have a bone in here! Which bone is this? It feels just like my ulna."
Tugging on his new found bone, he added, "I think my book forgot this bone that is right in the middle of the pelvis!"

And Daddy is just so proud that Maku compared that bone to his ulna (forearm) and not his phalanges (fingers or toes).

Maku, you did good.

let's celebrate with your favorite treat....

lightly fried calamari...

with oh so spicy...

marinara sauce.
